How SpanishGoldCoins Reviews Products

Mark Sullivan, Founder & Editor-in-Chief
This page explains how SpanishGoldCoins works — what we cover, how we evaluate coins, and what to expect from our editorial recommendations.

What this site does

After 28 years watching the Spanish colonial coin market from shop floors and auction galleries, I built this site to close the information gap between raw market noise and actionable price knowledge. SpanishGoldCoins is an editorial operation — we read auction results, weigh dealer inventories, and study certification data to produce guides, valuations, and shopping resources that help collectors at every level buy with confidence. We don't test products; we read the market.

How we evaluate

  • Provenance depth — does the coin's record support or weaken its price?
  • Certification impact — how do different holders affect value across grades?
  • Market timing — how do seasonal and cyclical patterns shift prices?
  • Strike and surface quality — what separates a 'galano' from an average cob?
  • Rarity vs. demand — is high price driven by scarcity or hype?

Affiliate disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links — if you click and buy, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This helps fund our editorial research but never influences our evaluations or recommendations.
